Devon Magliozzi is a sociologist by training and a skeptic by nature. She loves digging into the taken-for-granted and figuring out how things really work.
She currently writes Under Review, a newsletter that uses social science research to re-examine the premises of U.S. public policy.
Before that, she quietly advised donors while trying to build a knowledge base that would make social science research more useful for journalists, policymakers and philanthropists.
Before that, she investigated local policymaking as a journalist in Ithaca, NY, where she reported on everything from property taxes to workers' collective actions and the odd rabid skunk.
Before that, she researched issues like how to move beyond binary measures of gender and how communities unintentionally reproduce inequality while earning her PhD at Stanford.
And before all that, she was a perennial favorite at the St. Mary Elementary science fair.
She lives in Edinburgh and still spells words like "favourite" inconsistently.
She's adept at writing in the third person.
